Traffic signal control and weigh-in-motion

We are technology-independent: we select, configure and integrate the best-suited equipment from leading manufacturers for every project. Below are typical configurations we deliver.

Product family

Traffic Signal Controllers

We specify, configure, integrate and maintain traffic signal controllers from leading manufacturers — from a single pedestrian crossing to city-wide adaptive networks.

Weigh-in-Motion (WIM)

Weigh-in-motion systems measure axle loads and gross vehicle weight at traffic speed. We design and integrate WIM sites for enforcement, pre-selection and asset protection.

Truck passing under a weigh-in-motion enforcement gantry with cameras

High-Speed WIM for Direct Enforcement

Multi-sensor WIM site with ANPR and overview cameras, delivering legally usable weight data for automated overload enforcement.

Speed range
5 – 150 km/h
Accuracy
COST 323 class A(5) / OIML R134 compatible
Sensors
quartz / strip sensors, 2–4 rows per lane
Evidence
ANPR, overview image, encrypted records
Overhead sign directing heavy goods vehicles to a roadside inspection area

WIM Pre-Selection Site

Screens heavy goods vehicles upstream of a static weighing area so that only suspected overloaded trucks are stopped for inspection.

Purpose
targeted roadside inspections
Accuracy
COST 323 class B+(7)
Integration
variable message signs, inspection back-office
Data
real-time dashboards and statistics

Bridge & Pavement Protection WIM

Continuous axle-load monitoring to protect bridges and pavements, feeding asset-management and maintenance planning with real load spectra.

Monitoring
24/7 axle-load spectra
Alerts
real-time overload alarms
Outputs
ESAL, load histograms, DATEX II
Use
asset management, design loads

Our software

Cadence — the cloud workbench for traffic-signal design

Design, calculate, simulate and document signal-controlled intersections in one model, in one place, together with your client. Cadence runs in the browser and is available in English, Dutch and French.

Cadence showing a 3D simulation of a signal-controlled intersection with a tram, cyclists, pedestrians and cars
3D view of a design in Cadence: the intersection with its surroundings, simulated road users and signals.

Shorter queues

Find the signal timing that moves the most traffic with the least waiting.

Safer crossings

Every safety margin calculated and traceable — no guesswork, no hidden spreadsheets.

Faster approval

Your reviewer sees the design, the numbers and the result in one place.

Proven before built

Simulate and show the outcome before the first pole goes in the ground.

From first sketch to approved signal plan

  1. Draw — lanes, crossings, signal heads and detectors on a base map, aerial photo or OpenStreetMap
  2. Signal groups — proposed automatically from the movements
  3. Conflicts and clearance — conflict matrix and intergreen times, each traceable to its formula and source
  4. Phasing and capacity — phase and interstage diagrams with a capacity check per peak period
  5. Programs — fixed-time and vehicle-actuated control, state tables and a weekly schedule
  6. Simulate — microsimulation in the browser with queues, waiting times, stops and throughput
  7. Visualise — realistic 3D of the intersection and its surroundings, with video export
  8. Document — true-scale signal-plan documents from A0 to A3, ready for review

Who it is for

  • Engineering consultancies: design and deliver signal schemes faster, with every number backed up
  • Road authorities: review designs in the browser and see how each value was derived
  • Cities: understand and communicate the impact of a new layout before it is built

Beyond the hardware

Complete, interoperable systems

Every product we deliver is part of a larger system. We take care of detection, communication networks, power supply, central software and data platforms, using open standards to avoid vendor lock-in.

  • Detection: inductive loops, radar, video analytics, thermal and Bluetooth sensors
  • Communication: fibre, 4G/5G, private networks with end-to-end encryption
  • Central systems: urban traffic control, WIM back-offices, enforcement chains
  • Open protocols: OCIT, NTCIP, UTMC, DATEX II
  • Lifecycle services: preventive & corrective maintenance with guaranteed SLAs
